If you’re looking to keep costs down, check for hotels with special offers, e.g. free nights, but ensure your arrival day applies. Try to avoid Eurotunnel or Ferry travel before 2pm from the UK and if you can, return before 1pm from the continent. If travelling with Eurostar, be aware that ticket prices can rise as trains fill, so book as early as possible and if you can be flexible with journey times that can help us find you better value seats.

Ostend is just along the coast from Calais and is worth a visit in the Summer for its 9km of gorgeous sandy beaches. A colourful marina is also nearby, and when you get hungry there are many restaurants in the main streets to tempt you.  Ostend  restaurants specialise in freshly caught fish, and the Fish Market is also worth a visit where you can also pick up a warm snack of the day’s catch. 

The town comes alive at night and rocks on until the early hours. There are many clubs, discos and pubs with live music, including the Casino so you will need to conserve some of your energy for the evening - especially if you’ve been shopping all day in the Kapellestraat which has been voted the most popular shopping street in Flanders, where you’ll find all the well-known stores.
